Noah (Nooh)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
We sent Noah to his people (and directed him): “Warn your people before a grievous chastisement comes upon them.” 1 He said, "O my people, indeed I am to you a clear warner, 2 “That you must worship Allah and fear Him, and obey me.” 3 "So He may forgive you your sins and give you respite for a stated Term: for when the Term given by Allah is accomplished, it cannot be put forward: if ye only knew." 4 He said, "My Lord, indeed I invited my people [to truth] night and day. 5 But my invitation increased them not except in flight. 6 Every time I have called to them, so that You might forgive them, they have only thrust their fingers into their ears, covered themselves up with their garments, grown obstinate, and given themselves up to arrogance. 7 Then indeed I called them openly; 8 And lo! I have made public proclamation unto them, and I have appealed to them in private. 9 I said to them: “Ask forgiveness from your Lord; surely He is Most Forgiving. 10 He will send you abundant rain from the sky, 11 And will give you increase of wealth and sons, and give you gardens and springs of water. 12 ‘What is the matter with you, that you do not desire honour from Allah?’ 13 And surely He hath created you by stages. 14 Have you not regarded how God created seven heavens one upon another, 15 and set the moon therein for a light and the sun for a lamp? 16 "'And God has caused you to grow out of the earth in [gradual] growth; and thereafter He will return you to it [in death]: 17 Then He will return you into it and extract you [another] extraction. 18 And Allah has made for you the earth a wide expanse, 19 That you may go about therein in broad roads. 20
