Noah (Nooh)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Indeed, We sent Noah to his people, [saying], "Warn your people before there comes to them a painful punishment." 1 Noah said, "My people, I am warning you plainly. 2 that you should worship God [alone] and be conscious of Him. "Now do pay heed unto me, 3 so that He may forgive you some of your sins, and grant you respite until a term known [to Him alone]: but, behold, when the term appointed by God does come, it can never be put back - if you but knew it!" 4 He said: my Lord! Verily I have called my people night and day. 5 But my call has only made them flee the more: 6 And every time I called them that You may forgive them, they thrust their fingers into their ears, and covered themselves with their garments, and became wayward, and behaved with downright insolence. 7 Then indeed I called them openly; 8 Then verily I spake unto them openly and secretly. I also addressed them. 9 "Ask for forgiveness of your Lord," I said. "Surely, He is the Forgiver. 10 'He will send rain to you in abundance; 11 increase your wealth and sons; and grant you gardens and waterways. 12 What aileth you that ye expect not in Allah majesty! 13 And indeed He has created you through various grades: 14 Do you not see how Allah has created the seven heavens, one above another, 15 And made the moon therein a light, and made the sun a lamp? 16 And Allah has brought you forth from the (dust of) earth. [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 29, Page 97]. 17 how He will then return you to it and bring you forth again, 18 And Allah hath made the earth unto you an expanse. 19 That you may go about therein in broad roads. 20
