Noah (Nooh)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
BEHOLD. We sent Noah unto his people. [Saying:] "Warn thy people ere grievous suffering befall them! 1 He said: "O my people! Verily, I am a plain warner to you, 2 Worship Allah, fear Him, and obey me. 3 so that He may forgive you some of your sins, and grant you respite until a term known [to Him alone]: but, behold, when the term appointed by God does come, it can never be put back - if you but knew it!" 4 He said: O my Lord! surely I have called my people by night and by day! 5 But my invitation increased them not except in flight. 6 And verily so oft as I call them, that Thou mayest forgive them, they place their fingers into their ears, and wrap themselves with their garments, and persist, and are stiff-necked. 7 I called to them clearly, 8 Then surely I spoke to them in public and I spoke to them in secret: 9 Then I said, Ask forgiveness of your Lord, surely He is the most Forgiving: 10 and He will loose heaven upon you in torrents 11 and will provide you with wealth and children, and will bestow upon you gardens and rivers. 12 What is the matter with you, [that you fear not Allah (His punishment), and] you hope not for reward (from Allah or you believe not in His Oneness). 13 when He has created you through different stages of existence? 14 Have you not regarded how God created seven heavens one upon another, 15 and placed therein the moon as a light and the sun as a torch. 16 And Allah has brought you forth from the (dust of) earth. [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 29, Page 97]. 17 and He will later cause you to return to it and will then again bring you out of it. 18 Allah has made the earth a wide expanse for you 19 "'That ye may go about therein, in spacious roads.'" 20
