Noah (Nooh)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
We sent Noah forth to his people, saying, "Warn your people before there comes upon them a grievous punishment." 1 He said: 'My nation, I am a clear warner for you. 2 Worship God, have fear of Him and obey me. 3 He will forgive you some of your faults and grant you a delay to an appointed term; surely the term of Allah when it comes is not postponed; did you but know! 4 He said: O my Lord! surely I have called my people by night and by day! 5 but my call has only increased them in running away. 6 "And every time I have called to them, that Thou mightest forgive them, they have (only) thrust their fingers into their ears, covered themselves up with their garments, grown obstinate, and given themselves up to arrogance. 7 Then I invited them publicly. 8 "Further I have spoken to them in public and secretly in private, 9 Then I said, "Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Surely He is the most forgiving. 10 "'He will send rain to you in abundance; 11 ‘And will aid you with wealth and sons, and will create gardens for you and cause rivers to flow for you.’ 12 ‘What is the matter with you, that you do not desire honour from Allah?’ 13 when He has created you through different stages of existence? 14 "'Do you not see how God has created seven heavens in full harmony with one another, 15 "'And made the moon a light in their midst, and made the sun as a (Glorious) Lamp? 16 And Allah has caused you to grow out of the earth so wondrously, 17 ‘And He will then take you back to it, and again remove you from it.” 18 And Allah has made for you the earth wide spread (an expanse). 19 for you, so that you may walk along its wide roads". 20
