Jinns (Al-Jinn)
28 verses, revealed in Mecca after A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf) before Y S (Yaa Seen)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ SAY: "I HAVE been informed that a number of jinns had listened; then said: 'We have heard the wondrous Qur'an, 1 Which guides to the right path; and we have come to believe in it, and will not associate any one with our Lord. 2 'And Exalted is the Majesty of our Lord: He has taken neither a wife nor a son. 3 'There were some foolish ones among us, who used to utter extravagant lies against Allah; 4 And verily we! we had imagined that humankind and jinn would never forge against Allah a lie. 5 "Certain human beings sought refuge with certain jinn and this increased the rebelliousness of those jinn. 6 so much so that they came to think, as you [once] thought, that God would never [again] send forth anyone [as His apostle]. 7 We sought to reach heaven, but found it filled with strong guards and flames -- 8 We would sit there on seats to hear; but any listening now finds a meteor in wait for him. 9 'And we understand not whether ill is intended to those on earth, or whether their Lord (really) intends to guide them to right conduct. 10 ‘And among us some are virtuous and some are the other type; we are split into several branches.’ 11 And that we know that we cannot escape Allah in the earth, nor can we escape Him by flight: 12 When we heard the Guidance, we believed in it, and whosoever believes in his Lord shall fear neither shortage nor injustice. 13 "'Yet [it is true] that among us are such as have surrendered themselves to God - just as there are among us such as have abandoned themselves to wrongdoing. Now as for those who surrender themselves to Him - it is they that have attained to consciousness of what is right; 14 And as for those who are unjust, they are firewood for hell. 15 Would they but go straight on the way, We would give them to drink of water copious, 16 so that We may test them by it -- whoever turns away from the remembrance of his Lord shall be sternly punished. 17 The mosques are for God's worship -- so do not invoke anyone else along with God -- 18 (It has been revealed to me that) When the slave of Allah (Muhammad SAW) stood up invoking (his Lord Allah) in prayer to Him they (the jinns) just made round him a dense crowd as if sticking one over the other (in order to listen to the Prophet's recitation). 19
