Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you wrapped in garments (i.e. Prophet Muhammad SAW)! 1 Keep awake [in prayer] at night, all but a small part 2 Half of it, or a little less than that, 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 Behold, We shall bestow upon thee a weighty message 5 Surely in the watches of the night the soul is most receptive and words more telling. 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 But recite the name of your Lord withdrawing yourself from everything, devoting yourself exclusively to Him. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 Indeed, with Us [for them] are shackles and burning fire 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 How then, if ye disbelieve, shall ye escape, on a Day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 Verily this is an Admonition: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) path to his Lord! 19
