Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O you the (sleeping) enwrapped one! 1 Stay up the night long save a little 2 A half of it or a little less 3 Or add to it, and recite the Quran as it ought to be recited. 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 On that day, the earth and the mountains will be violently shaken, and the mountains will be turned into heaps of moving sand. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 So how will you save yourselves, if you disbelieve, on a day that will turn children old? 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
