In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou enwrapped! 1 worship (God) for a few hours at night. 2 Half of it, or a little less than that, 3 Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. 4 Verily We! anon We shall cast upon thee a weighty word. 5 Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent. 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He. So take Him alone for your Guardian, 9 and endure with patience whatever people may say [against thee,] and avoid them with a comely avoidance. 10 And leave Me (alone to deal with) those in possession of the good things of life, who (yet) deny the Truth; and bear with them for a little while. 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 And a Food that chokes, and a Penalty Grievous. 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 If you disbelieve, how will you guard yourself against the Day that will make children gray haired, 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 Verily, this is an admonition, therefore whosoever will, let him take a Path to His Lord! 19
