In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 A half of it or a little less 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words. 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment - 13 (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. 14 Verily, We have sent to you (O men) a Messenger (Muhammad SAW) to be a witness over you, as We did send a Messenger [Musa (Moses)] to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 on which the heaven will split apart, and His promise is done. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
