In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 worship (God) for a few hours at night. 2 Half of it, or lessen it a little, 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message. 5 surely the first part of the night is heavier in tread, more upright in speech, 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and, leaving others, devote yourself solely to Him. 8 (He Alone is) the Lord of the east and the west, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). So take Him Alone as Wakil (Disposer of your affairs). 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 but Pharaoh rebelled against the Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 Then how can you avoid the punishment, if you disbelieve, on a Day that will make the children grey-headed (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)? 17 on which the heaven will split apart, and His promise is done. 18 This is a reminder. Let anyone who wants, seek guidance from his Lord. 19
