Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 (a half of it, or diminish a little, 3 Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones. 4 Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message. 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 And a food that choketh and a torment afflictive. 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 but Pharaoh rebelled against the Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord. 19
