In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou wrapped up in thy raiment! 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word. 5 Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent. 6 Indeed you have a lot of matters during the day. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He; so take Him for a Guardian. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 and Pharaoh rebelled against the apostle, whereupon We took him to task with a crushing grip. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 on which the heaven will split apart, and His promise is done. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
