In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who have wrapped up in your garments! 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 Half of it,- or a little less, 3 Or increase thereto. And intone the Qur'an with measured intonations. 4 We are about to cast upon you a weighty Word. 5 Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words. 6 Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. 7 But recite the name of your Lord withdrawing yourself from everything, devoting yourself exclusively to Him. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you – the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
