In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 stand up to pray for much of the night. 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. 4 We are about to reveal to you a mighty word. 5 Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent. 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little. 11 We have in store for them heavy fetters and a blazing Fire, 12 And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom 13 On the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains shall become (as) heaps of sand let loose. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger, whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip. 16 How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
