In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 Half of it, or lessen it a little, 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Indeed, the first part of night is heavier in tread, and more upright in speech. 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 How then, if ye disbelieve, shall ye escape, on a Day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 on which the heaven will split apart, and His promise is done. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
