In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you the (sleeping) enwrapped one! 1 Stand up in Prayer by night, all but a small part of it; 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones. 4 Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word. 5 Indeed getting up in the night is tougher, and the words flow with strength. 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 We have prepared for them fetters, flaming fire, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment - 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
