In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENWRAPPED in the cloak (of Prophethood), 1 worship (God) for a few hours at night. 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 (He Alone is) the Lord of the east and the west, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). So take Him Alone as Wakil (Disposer of your affairs). 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 And leave Me Alone to deal with the beliers (those who deny My Verses, etc.), and those who are in possession of good things of life. And give them respite for a little while. 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, 17 the Day whose severity shall cause the heaven to split asunder? Allah's promise is ever bound to be fulfilled. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
