Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O THOU enwrapped one! 1 worship (God) for a few hours at night. 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Surely in the watches of the night the soul is most receptive and words more telling. 6 Indeed you have a lot of matters during the day. 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 Bear patiently whatever they say, do not yield to them and keep on preaching decently to them. 10 And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little. 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment, 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 BEHOLD, [O men,] We have sent unto you an apostle who shall bear witness to the truth before you, even as We sent an apostle unto Pharaoh: 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 Verily this is an Admonition: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) path to his Lord! 19
