Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O you wrapped in garments (i.e. Prophet Muhammad SAW)! 1 keep vigil the night, except a little 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 Behold, We shall bestow upon thee a weighty message 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 and a food that chokes, and a grievous chastisement. 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. 15 and Pharaoh rebelled against the apostle, whereupon We took him to task with a crushing grip. 16 Then how can you avoid the punishment, if you disbelieve, on a Day that will make the children grey-headed (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)? 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 Verily this is a reminder. So let him who desires take the way to his Lord. 19
