In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 Stand up for worship during the night, except for some part of it. 2 Half of it, or lessen it a little, 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech. 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 food which chokes (them), and a painful torment. 13 On the Day when the earth with all its mountains quake and the mountains become heaps of shifting sand. 14 Verily We! We have sent unto you an apostle, a witness over you, even as We sent unto Fir'awn an apostle. 15 However, the Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger and We seized him with a severe retribution. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 Whereby heaven shall be split, and its promise shall be performed. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
