Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 Stand up for worship during the night, except for some part of it. 2 Half of it, or lessen it a little, 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 Leave to Me those who belie, those who lead a life of pleasure, and bear with them yet a little while. 11 We have heavy fetters and a blazing Fire in store for them; 12 food that chokes and painful punishment 13 (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. 14 Verily We! We have sent unto you an apostle, a witness over you, even as We sent unto Fir'awn an apostle. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
