In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Keep awake [in prayer] at night, all but a small part 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 Or increase a little upon it, and recite the Qur’an slowly in stages. 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech. 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 Indeed, with Us [for them] are shackles and burning fire 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Surely We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We had sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 Verily, this is an admonition, therefore whosoever will, let him take a Path to His Lord! 19
