In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent. 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 Remember the name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He; so take Him for a Guardian. 9 And bear patiently the vain things they utter, and gracefully forsake them. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the affluent ones who give the lie (to the Truth), and bear with them for a while. 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 On the day the earth and mountains will rock violently, and the mountains turn to a heap of poured-out sand. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?- 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 This is indeed a Reminder. Let whosoever will take the Path to his Lord. 19
