Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you the (sleeping) enwrapped one! 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 Indeed you have a lot of matters during the day. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, 11 Verily, with Us are fetters (to bind them), and a raging Fire. 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment - 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 We have sent a messenger who is a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharoah before you. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 Verily this is an Admonition: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) path to his Lord! 19
