Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 Keep watch all the night except some, 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 Surely, getting up at night [for worship] is the most potent means of subduing the self and most suitable for the word [of prayer]. 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 Remember the Name of your Lord and dedicate yourself devoutly to Him. 8 (He Alone is) the Lord of the east and the west, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). So take Him Alone as Wakil (Disposer of your affairs). 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 And a Food that chokes, and a Penalty Grievous. 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 Then how can you avoid the punishment, if you disbelieve, on a Day that will make the children grey-headed (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)? 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 Verily this is an admonition; let him therefore, who will, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
