Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 Keep awake [in prayer] at night, all but a small part 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 or a little more, but recite the Quran slowly and distinctly. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 Remember the name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 And leave Me Alone to deal with the beliers (those who deny My Verses, etc.), and those who are in possession of good things of life. And give them respite for a little while. 11 for, behold, heavy fetters [await them] with Us, and a blazing fire, 12 food which chokes (them), and a painful torment. 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?- 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 This is indeed a Reminder. Let whosoever will take the Path to his Lord. 19
