In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enwrapped! 1 stand up to pray for much of the night. 2 Half of it, or lessen it a little, 3 Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones. 4 We are about to reveal to you a mighty word. 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 Remember the name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly. 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 We have heavy fetters and a blazing Fire in store for them; 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. 14 BEHOLD, [O men,] We have sent unto you an apostle who shall bear witness to the truth before you, even as We sent an apostle unto Pharaoh: 15 However, the Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger and We seized him with a severe retribution. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 the Day whose severity shall cause the heaven to split asunder? Allah's promise is ever bound to be fulfilled. 18 This is a reminder. Let anyone who wants, seek guidance from his Lord. 19
