In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 keep vigil the night, except a little 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 Behold, We shall cast upon you a Weighty Word. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 The Lord of the East and the West-- there is no god but He-- therefore take Him for a protector. 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 Verily with Us are heavy fetters and Scorch. 12 And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom 13 On that day, the earth and the mountains will be violently shaken, and the mountains will be turned into heaps of moving sand. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger, whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip. 16 If you persist in denying the truth how will you escape the Day that will turn the children's hair grey. 17 The heaven shall rend asunder thereby; His promise is ever brought to fulfillment. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
