In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 Stand (to pray) all night, except a little. 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 or add to it a little; and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 Surely, getting up at night [for worship] is the most potent means of subduing the self and most suitable for the word [of prayer]. 6 surely in the day thou hast long business. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 The Lord of the East and the West-- there is no god but He-- therefore take Him for a protector. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 Verily, this is an admonition, therefore whosoever will, let him take a Path to His Lord! 19
