Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou wrapped up in thy raiment! 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 A half of it or a little less 3 or a little more, but recite the Quran slowly and distinctly. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 Surely in the watches of the night the soul is most receptive and words more telling. 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion. 8 The Lord of the East and the West-- there is no god but He-- therefore take Him for a protector. 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 And leave Me (alone to deal with) those in possession of the good things of life, who (yet) deny the Truth; and bear with them for a little while. 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 food which chokes (them), and a painful torment. 13 On that day, the earth and the mountains will be violently shaken, and the mountains will be turned into heaps of moving sand. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 If therefore you disbelieve, how will you guard yourselves against a day that shall make the children grey-headed? 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
