Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who have wrapped up in your garments! 1 Stand (to pray) all night, except a little. 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 We are about to cast upon you a weighty Word. 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 And be patient (O Muhammad SAW) with what they say, and keep away from them in a good way. 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 for, behold, heavy fetters [await them] with Us, and a blazing fire, 12 and food that chokes, and a painful chastisement, 13 On the Day when the earth with all its mountains quake and the mountains become heaps of shifting sand. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But the Pharaoh disobeyed the apostle; so We seized him with a grievous punishment. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 This is indeed an advice; so whoever wishes may take the path towards his Lord. 19
