In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who have wrapped up in your garments! 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon you a Weighty Word. 5 Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words. 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 But [whether by night or by day,] remember thy Sustainer's name, and devote thyself unto Him with utter devotion. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 Bear with patience what they say, and gracefully come away from them. 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 We have in store for them heavy fetters and a blazing Fire, 12 and food that chokes, and a painful chastisement, 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Surely We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We had sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger, whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip. 16 If therefore you disbelieve, how will you guard yourselves against a day that shall make the children grey-headed? 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
