In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 Stand up for worship during the night, except for some part of it. 2 Half of it,- or a little less, 3 or add to it a little; and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 We are about to reveal to you a mighty word. 5 Surely getting up at night is the best means of subduing the self and is more suitable for uprightness in speech. 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Lord of the eastern and western regions, with due sincerity. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 And leave Me (alone to deal with) those in possession of the good things of life, who (yet) deny the Truth; and bear with them for a little while. 11 We have prepared for them fetters, flaming fire, 12 food which chokes (them), and a painful torment. 13 upon the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains become a slipping heap of sand. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 Verily this is an admonition; let him therefore, who will, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
