Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O YOU ENWRAPPED in the cloak (of Prophethood), 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 Behold, We shall bestow upon thee a weighty message 5 Surely, getting up at night [for worship] is the most potent means of subduing the self and most suitable for the word [of prayer]. 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 (He Alone is) the Lord of the east and the west, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). So take Him Alone as Wakil (Disposer of your affairs). 9 And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. 12 And a Food that chokes, and a Penalty Grievous. 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 on which the heaven will split apart, and His promise is done. 18 Indeed this is nothing but a Good Counsel; so let him who will take a way leading to his Lord. 19
