In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 Stay up the night long save a little 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 We are about to cast upon you a weighty Word. 5 Indeed, the first part of night is heavier in tread, and more upright in speech. 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. 12 and a food that chokes, and a grievous chastisement. 13 (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 Indeed this is nothing but a Good Counsel; so let him who will take a way leading to his Lord. 19
