In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 Stand up in Prayer by night, all but a small part of it; 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word. 5 Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech. 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 But recite the name of your Lord withdrawing yourself from everything, devoting yourself exclusively to Him. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He; so take Him for a Guardian. 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 On the day the earth and mountains will rock violently, and the mountains turn to a heap of poured-out sand. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 If therefore you disbelieve, how will you guard yourselves against a day that shall make the children grey-headed? 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
