In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENWRAPPED in the cloak (of Prophethood), 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 Or add to it, and recite the Quran as it ought to be recited. 4 Verily We! anon We shall cast upon thee a weighty word. 5 Indeed, the first part of night is heavier in tread, and more upright in speech. 6 You have by day prolonged occupations [with Dawah work]. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment - 13 upon the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains become a slipping heap of sand. 14 BEHOLD, [O men,] We have sent unto you an apostle who shall bear witness to the truth before you, even as We sent an apostle unto Pharaoh: 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
