In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENWRAPPED in the cloak (of Prophethood), 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 For half the night, or reduce some from it. 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 The Lord of the East and the West-- there is no god but He-- therefore take Him for a protector. 9 And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking. 10 Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, 11 Verily with Us are heavy fetters and Scorch. 12 food which chokes (them), and a painful torment. 13 On the Day when the earth with all its mountains quake and the mountains become heaps of shifting sand. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
