Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 Stand up in Prayer by night, all but a small part of it; 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 or a little more, but recite the Quran slowly and distinctly. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 Indeed during the day you have a long schedule of occupations. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 [He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs. 9 And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the deniers, who live a life of comfort, and bear with them a little longer. 11 for, behold, heavy fetters [await them] with Us, and a blazing fire, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment, 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger, whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
