In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 Keep watch all the night except some, 2 For half the night, or reduce some from it. 3 Or a little more, and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 Indeed getting up in the night is tougher, and the words flow with strength. 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 And leave Me (alone to deal with) those in possession of the good things of life, who (yet) deny the Truth; and bear with them for a little while. 11 We have in store for them heavy fetters and a blazing Fire, 12 And a Food that chokes, and a Penalty Grievous. 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 But the Pharaoh disobeyed the apostle; so We seized him with a grievous punishment. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 the Day whose severity shall cause the heaven to split asunder? Allah's promise is ever bound to be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
