Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you the (sleeping) enwrapped one! 1 Stand up for worship during the night, except for some part of it. 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words. 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 Leave to Me those who belie, those who lead a life of pleasure, and bear with them yet a little while. 11 We have in store for them heavy fetters and a blazing Fire, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment, 13 (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 If you persist in denying the truth how will you escape the Day that will turn the children's hair grey. 17 on which the heaven will split apart, and His promise is done. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
