In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou folded in garments! 1 Stand up in Prayer by night, all but a small part of it; 2 Half of it,- or a little less, 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon you a Weighty Word. 5 Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent. 6 surely in the day thou hast long business. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?- 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 Verily, this is an admonition, therefore whosoever will, let him take a Path to His Lord! 19
