In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you the (sleeping) enwrapped one! 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 Or increase a little upon it, and recite the Qur’an slowly in stages. 4 We are about to reveal to you a mighty word. 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 And remember the name of your Lord and, leaving others, devote yourself solely to Him. 8 [He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs. 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 We have prepared for them fetters, flaming fire, 12 and food that chokes, and a painful chastisement, 13 On the day when the earth and the hills rock, and the hills become a heap of running sand. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger, whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip. 16 If therefore you disbelieve, how will you guard yourselves against a day that shall make the children grey-headed? 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
