In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message. 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and, leaving others, devote yourself solely to Him. 8 (He Alone is) the Lord of the east and the west, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). So take Him Alone as Wakil (Disposer of your affairs). 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 Verily, with Us are fetters (to bind them), and a raging Fire. 12 and a food that chokes, and a grievous chastisement. 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 BEHOLD, [O men,] We have sent unto you an apostle who shall bear witness to the truth before you, even as We sent an apostle unto Pharaoh: 15 But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger, whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip. 16 How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
