O you the (sleeping) enwrapped one! 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 Or increase a little upon it, and recite the Qur’an slowly in stages. 4 Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word. 5 Indeed, the first part of night is heavier in tread, and more upright in speech. 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 But [whether by night or by day,] remember thy Sustainer's name, and devote thyself unto Him with utter devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 And be patient (O Muhammad SAW) with what they say, and keep away from them in a good way. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 Verily, with Us are fetters (to bind them), and a raging Fire. 12 And a food that choketh and a torment afflictive. 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 If you disbelieve, how will you guard yourself against the Day that will make children gray haired, 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 This is indeed an advice; so whoever wishes may take the path towards his Lord. 19
