In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Keep watch all the night except some, 2 Half of it, or a little less than that, 3 or a little more, but recite the Quran slowly and distinctly. 4 We shall soon entrust to you a message heavy (with solemnity). 5 Indeed getting up in the night is tougher, and the words flow with strength. 6 Lo! thou hast by day a chain of business. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 Bear patiently whatever they say, do not yield to them and keep on preaching decently to them. 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger, whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip. 16 How then, if ye disbelieve, shall ye escape, on a Day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
