In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Stand (to pray) all night, except a little. 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 surely the first part of the night is heavier in tread, more upright in speech, 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He; so take Him for a Guardian. 9 and endure with patience whatever people may say [against thee,] and avoid them with a comely avoidance. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 We have heavy fetters and a blazing Fire in store for them; 12 And a food that choketh and a torment afflictive. 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 If therefore you disbelieve, how will you guard yourselves against a day that shall make the children grey-headed? 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
