Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou folded in garments! 1 Stand up in Prayer by night, all but a small part of it; 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 Or increase a little upon it, and recite the Qur’an slowly in stages. 4 Indeed We shall soon ordain a heavy responsibility upon you. 5 Surely getting up at night is the best means of subduing the self and is more suitable for uprightness in speech. 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god except Him. Take Him for your Guardian. 9 Bear patiently whatever they say, do not yield to them and keep on preaching decently to them. 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 food that chokes and painful punishment 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 Verily We! We have sent unto you an apostle, a witness over you, even as We sent unto Fir'awn an apostle. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 This is indeed an advice; so whoever wishes may take the path towards his Lord. 19
