In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O the One Wrapped in piety! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 Stand (to pray) all night, except a little. 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Behold, We shall bestow upon thee a weighty message 5 Surely in the watches of the night the soul is most receptive and words more telling. 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 And remember the name of your Lord and, leaving others, devote yourself solely to Him. 8 (He Alone is) the Lord of the east and the west, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). So take Him Alone as Wakil (Disposer of your affairs). 9 Bear with patience what they say, and gracefully come away from them. 10 And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little. 11 We have prepared for them fetters, flaming fire, 12 And a food that choketh and a torment afflictive. 13 On the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains shall become (as) heaps of sand let loose. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 In response Firaun disobeyed the Noble Messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure. 16 Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 Verily this is a reminder. So let him who desires take the way to his Lord. 19
