In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Stay up the night long save a little 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech. 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 But recite the name of your Lord withdrawing yourself from everything, devoting yourself exclusively to Him. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 We have sent a messenger who is a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharoah before you. 15 However, the Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger and We seized him with a severe retribution. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 The heavens itself will be rent asunder (on that day). His promise is bound to be fulfilled. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
